A Month of Romance - Cara Addison

Welcome, my darlings. Today I’m very lucky to be joined by Award Winning Author of Erotica Romance, Cara Addison.

Author Bio:
Born and raised in Southern Ontario, Cara Addison has used drive, tenacity, ambition, and out-of-the-box thinking to ascend the Canadian corporate ladder to shatter the proverbial glass ceiling. As the CEO of a government agency, Cara prefers to be out in the trenches, working to provide solutions rather than sitting behind a desk. Over her fifteen-year career, Cara has given back to her community, supporting her philanthropic interests as she provides strategic governance on numerous boards of directors.

While Cara loves to succeed in her work, it was an impromptu challenge to herself that led her to sit down one day and write a piece of fiction that was worthy of publication. Being an avid daydreamer since childhood, she transferred her own wit and humor to the narrative and dialogue of the characters that resided in her imagination.  Words poured onto the page and within weeks, she had a full-length novel with characters, events, and situations that were influenced by the people and places in her everyday life.

As the mother of two young daughters, Cara involves her girls as she indulges in outdoor adventures, shares her love of new travel destinations, tends to the backyard vegetable patch, and uses those fresh ingredients in her everyday cooking.

With a growing catalogue of novels, Cara uses her social media savvy to engage and interact with readers. Her playful, clever, and sometimes naughty banter resonates with male and female readers alike.

Cara’s Novels Include:
  • Passion, Power, and Privilege
  • Going The Distance

Interview:
Hello, beautiful, and thank you for agreeing to this interview. Why don’t you start by telling us about why you were drawn to this genre?
Well, I would say that it all happened rather accidentally. I didn’t ever set out to be a published author of erotica. Can’t say that was my childhood goal at all! But I’ve always been a sexy thinker.

For me, the beauty of erotica romance isn’t just about writing (or reading) gratuitous sex. It’s really about knowing the personality and preferences of my characters and writing those intimate moments in enough detail so that the reader feels like they have become the hero or heroine in the story. Sex is very personal and is reflective of so many things. Our mood. Our temperament. Our place in time.

I think that the erotic content of a romance novel should give us one more element with which to connect with our favourite characters. It unites us. That’s what draws me to this genre.

Where do you find your inspiration? Day-dreams? Fantasies? Real life experiences?
When I sat down one day with the personal challenge to see if I could write a piece of fiction, it was a lingering daydream in my head that I decided to scribe.

I’ve always been a day dreamer. As a student, my mind would drift off during lectures and sermons, fantasizing about the exceptional men that would be a part of my life as it unfolded. It was a mechanism to escape the monotony of everyday life in the bland world that I found myself in.

Now, as an adult, I still day dream. Sometimes the men in my mental escapes are influenced by real people that I’ve encountered, but quite often they are mere figments of my imagination. They are exceptional men in extraordinary situations that have the ability to meet my intellectual, sexual, and emotional needs.

These are the type of men that make it onto the page.

And on that note, how do you do your research? Leave nothing out!!
How does an author go about researching a bukkake? In 2015, upon the suggestion from a loyal reader, I set out to write, Indulging Her Fantasy, which is a full length novel exploring a woman’s emerging fantasy to participate in a bukkake. I knew NOTHING about this fetish.

In this case, I turned to people who knew more about the world of a bukkake than I did. I asked questions. A lot of questions. Then, I thought a lot about their input and observations, and began to put them together with who I wanted Aurora Reagan to be.

Sites like fetlife have been helpful in my research. Conversations with people I consider to be comfortable in pushing their own sexual boundaries help too. Sometimes…you just have to get into the lab and test things out for yourself!

Wow, bukkake....your kink is not my kink and all that ;) heheh. So, tell us a little about what have you written to date, and what are you working on at the minute?
Over the past three years, I’ve written and published eighteen full length novels, five short stories, and a handful of poems. I’m blessed to have five of my novels selected as the winner of The Romance Review Reader’s Choice Award. I have the BEST readers!

I’ve written two separate series, including a crime series with the remainder of my books as stand alone works. My writing covers all subject matters including municipal politics, the Canadian professional rodeo world, embezzlement (with a story twist you will not see coming), a bukkake fantasy, and a few love stories between characters that give us that wonderful escape from everyday life.

At present, I am embarking on an entirely new series that will feature the auto racing world of stock cars. Each novel will focus on a different aspect of the sport with the first novel written from the perspective of sports psychologist Rebecca Morris and Terrell Johnson, a member of the media pool.

What's your favourite love story, and can you quote us a favourite line from it?
My favourite love stories are written by Shakespeare. I love his writing because he had this incredible ability to weave humour and mirth into his various works. I adore the sentiment in this quote from Midsummer Night’s Dream.

“Love looks not with the eyes, but with the mind. And therefore is winged Cupid painted blind.”

Do you believe in love at first sight? *le sigh*
No, but I do believe in lust at first sight. Frankly, it’s a lot less elusive than love.

And with that, what does Love mean to you?
I don’t believe in love at first sight, because to me, love is earned.

Love is this product of the amassing of traits and behaviours that are unique to each couple. For me, Love without trust, is nothing. Love will not take root without trust, respect, hope, and adoration. I won’t even add amazing sex to the list, because I truly believe that intimacy is the fringe benefit to true love.

What is the first thing you notice about the opposite sex? Mhmmm and no fudging, tell us the truth woman!
His teeth! I know…WTF is wrong with me?

The second think I notice, is his vocabulary. It’s the way his mouth and tongue move that speaks volumes about his ummm…oral dexterity. I know that an articulate man with great communication skills is going to rock my world, in bed. I’ll let you just think about that for a moment….

Teeth? Hmm yes. . . ;) If you were to write a book about yourself, what would you name it?
Well, Shakespeare gets another shout out on this one. In Twelfth Night (Act 2, Scene 5), Shakespeare wrote, “Be not afraid of greatness. Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon them.”

My book title would be, ‘Be Not Afraid of Greatness’

Tell us about a unique or quirky habit of yours. Leave nothing out!
OMG…is there a word limit to this question?
I say the word, ‘actually’ far too often.
I snort when I laugh.
I sing the wrong words to songs on the radio …every single time.
I forget names within five seconds of being introduced to someone.
I smile at strangers.
I choose to parallel park, because I fucking rock at it.
I pay with cash.
…I’ll show myself out.

Aww now, it's fine, I'm weirder than you ;) Okay, final question. This is life or death stuff here…. Caramel or Chocolate!?!
My research is unscientific and random in its sampling, but I believe I may be the only woman who actually loathes chocolate. I love the smell…can’t stand the taste or the texture of it melting on my tongue.  So, drizzle me some caramel, baby!

-gasp- Did I hear loathe and chocolate in the same sentence!? I think I may die. . .  lol Thank you for stopping by, it’s been fun ;)

I invite readers to share their most absurd marriage proposals for a chance to win a signed paperback copy of The Cay. Duke gets it all wrong with Aemelia in this story filled with Greed, Love, Respect, and Temptation.

Here's an example to get you thinking...My ex husband proposed by saying, "Reach into my pocket". There was no lead up to it. We were standing in an abandoned parking lot. The ring...was in his pocket.  Side note...I found out the next day that his mother liked the ring so much, she had been wearing it around for the previous three days. Yeah.  Blechhh!

Okay...what's your story? Was it the words he used? The setting? The timing within a relationship? Personal or second hand stories are all welcome.

Blurb:
Can two friends with benefits make the leap to a life of happily ever after? Duke Weston thinks they can, when his casual relationship with Aemelia Davidson gradually turns serious. The problem is that Duke puts too much emphasis on appearances, as he tries to appease his mother and gets in too much of a hurry to walk Aemelia down the aisle.

Pushing him away, the independent and sometimes self indulgent fund manager flees Manhattan and escapes to the tiny Cay her father left for her in the Turks and Caicos. Determined to see her father’s dream of development become a reality, Aemelia reconnects with her teenage sweetheart for a secret affair. It’s an affair that lasts until Duke comes after her, determined to win her back.

Resisting him at every turn, Aemelia gives her full attention to the project inspired by her father, building luxury beach houses to surround a marina that will be home to luxury yachts and sailboats from around the world.

Can Aemelia see herself in a committed relationship with Duke? Is The Cay the place where she will finally put down roots and make Duke happy?

Greed, love, respect, and temptation must be overcome in this story of, The Cay.

5 STARS
“…When a true relationship develops the journey becomes bumpy. His overbearing family, a fib gone wrong, and emotions that were unexpected makes for a fast paced read by Ms. Addison. The tropical setting for a large part of the book, makes it a great beach for the summer or a mental vacation by a fire in the winter. This banter between Duke and Aemelia is sexy and fun and their sex scenes are scorching. There are several unexpected events in the book, and while there are times when the reader may want to smack the characters for their actions, like real life nothing is predictable.”

“The witty banter between the two main characters was exciting and made you wish you could just yell at them and make them see what is really happening. As expected the banter often led to some very graphic sex scenes that do not leave you wanting more.”

“This story caught my attention right away. I read the entire book in less than 10 hours! It was an amazing story!! I hope there will be more Duke and Aemelia in the future so I can find out what happens next!”

Adult Excerpt:
“That was amazing,” Aemelia purred.

Duke rolled onto his side and looked into her eyes. “I agree, it was amazing,” he said softly as he brushed her hair over her shoulder.

“That’s exactly how I’m meant to be fucked,” she admitted. As soon as she said it, she wondered what possessed her to speak so candidly to the man she had met just three hours earlier. She placed her hand on his chest and closed her eyes. If she was being honest, then she might as well share everything that was on her mind. “When I felt your finger tease my ass, I was sure that you were going to fuck me there.”

Duke chuckled softly. “Would you have let me?”

“Yes,” she said candidly. She felt a twinge between her legs at the though of having his huge cock inside her ass. She definitely would have let him finish in her ass.

“I wish I would have known that.”

Aemelia lifted her head off the pillow and gently kissed his lips. “I asked you what you like. If you’d have asked in return, I’d have told you.”

He returned her kiss. “Fair enough. I’ve learned my lesson.” His heart pounded as her eyelids fluttered as she looked at him with eyes that were becoming hypnotic to him. “What do you like?” he finally asked.

She sighed. “Pleasure. Gratification. Indulgence. I like giving just as much as receiving.” She looked down at his cock that had softened and ran her finger over the dense, flaccid flesh. “I love sucking on a cock,” she said softly.

Duke ran his hand across her shoulder and down her arm. “I’m sorry I denied you that.” He turned her head to face him. “Perhaps we can do this again and I can make some of these wrongs, right for you.”

She gave him a long kiss. “I am not complaining. I like to know that I’ve been fucked, and you definitely delivered on that.”

“What is this?” he asked as he ran his finger over a tiny depression in the toned skin of her abdomen.

“A scar,” she said candidly as she subconsciously ran her finger over the barely visible blemish. “I had surgery as a teenager. They had to take my fallopian tubes out. Fortunately they could do it without leaving a major scar.”

“Y…you don’t have your fallopian tubes?” he asked.

She looked at the cloudy expression on his face and shook her head. “I don’t. I can’t have kids,” she added in all honesty. “With me, birth control will never be a concern.” She heard the distinct sound of her phone pinging from another room. “I need to check that.”

“Where are you going?” he asked as she walked toward the bedroom door.

“There’s an alert on my phone. The markets are open in Hong Kong. One of the companies on my watch list is either having a really bad day, or a really good day.”

She disappeared out the door and down the hall, to the praises of her lover who was thoroughly enjoying the site of her naked body. She found her purse by the door and checked her trading page. Stocks for an airline were plummeting. She clicked the news link to read that an airliner with four hundred and ninety-two passengers and crew had crashed into mountainous terrain. She did a quick analysis of the stock that had now dropped more than fifteen percent of it’s value since the news hit the international wires. She checked her cash position to see what she had available in the event that she decided to purchase shares of the beleaguered stock.

“What is it?” Duke asked.

Aemelia jumped at the sound of his voice. Engrossed in the information on her phone, she hadn’t heard him approach in his bare feet. “There’s been a plane crash in Japan,” she said softly. “I was just monitoring the stock.” The warmth of his body melted away her cares as his long arms wrapped around her torso and he held her close.

“Does this mean you’re working instead of lying your sexy ass in my bed?”

“Yes,” she reluctantly admitted. She knew that she needed to get home to her computer. She could make trades on her phone, but it was her multi-screen terminal in her den that allowed her to most efficiently and effectively manage the fund.

“Come back to bed,” he pleaded. “I promised I’ll make it worth your while.”

She looked up into his eyes and reluctantly declined. “I need to take care of this.”

He held her close and kissed her passionately. She knew he was trying to convince her to stay more than he was saying goodbye. She unwillingly pulled away and began gathering her clothes. As she buttoned her blouse, Duke slipped on his boxer briefs and pulled on his dress shirt. “Let me get you a cab,” he offered as he reluctantly opened the door and escorted her to the front door of the building. Standing in bare feet on the sidewalk, he hailed her a cab that promptly pulled up to the curb. “Is there any chance that we can do this again? It would be a shame for this kind of connection to be a one-time thing.”

Connection. So he felt it too. “I’d like that. Call me anytime,” she invited as she handed him a business card from her handbag before giving him one last kiss. Twenty seconds later, the taxi was shuttling her to her SOHO apartment where she would watch and wait on fickle investors around the globe as she decided whether to invest a piece of her $4 billion in assets.
